After a mysterious bat-like human is discovered by some local teenagers, the local sheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, where he is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a “normal” boy by the veterinarian’s wife, Meredith, and teenage daughter, Shelley. Bat Boy is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, they turn on him, prodded by the machinations of Dr. Parker, who secretly despises Bat Boy. Shelley and Bat Boy, who have fallen in love, run away together from the ignorant townfolk and have a blissful coupling in the woods, but their happiness is shattered when Meredith arrives and reveals a secret. Soon the entire town arrives and hears the shocking story of Bat Boy’s unholy origin.

Auditioners should sign up for one of the available slots on one of the nights. This Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) Production will be directed by Brenton Cochran and Kayleigh Joyce

The play tells the story of Emily, who has a big problem.  Not only is she sent to bed just as she reaches the highest level of her new video game, but there’s a monster in her closet!  It’s not just her imagination.  Her friend Stephanie saw it, too.  Suffering the teasing of her brother and his friends, Emily and Stephanie recruit some of their own friends to help capture the monster.  What they don’t know is that Murray, the closet monster, doesn’t mean any harm — he only wants to play Emily’s new video game.  He’s too scared of kids to even think about trying to frighten them.  Murray’s boss, the Dream King, has heard about his goofing off on the job, and now Murray is on probation. Murray’s supervisor, fellow monster Wanda, is not happy with him either.  After all, every monster knows that when a child is born, a monster is assigned to watch over her — not to play with her toys and especially not to get caught in the act!  What will happen when Emily has all her friends over for a sleepover to try to capture Murray?  Even with Emily’s friend Brain’s careful analysis and planning, the girls wind up trapping the Dream King and his secretary, Toady, instead of Murray.

This historical drama by Lauren Gunderson is based on the true story of Henrietta Leavitt.  The play is set in the early 1900s at the Harvard Observatory.  As a woman, Leavitt is not allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love.
